TANIA BAYNE (SHANTI), M.S., LPC-S, E-RYT-200

    Tania opened her studio doors in 2010 with the purpose of combining mind and body integrative therapies in a holistic healing approach. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Qualified Supervisor, with a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from University of Southern Mississippi, Nationally Certified Counselor, and a Certified Yoga of Recovery Counselor with a clinical expertise in: depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, trauma, and stress management. Tania’s passion for yoga was ignited in 2002, leading her on a journey of healing and self-discovery. She is also a Certified Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance. She received her spiritual name of Shanti (The Peaceful One) and her yoga teacher’s training from the International Sivananda Vedanta Center in Woodbourne, NY. Tania uses mindfulness-based therapy, yoga, and meditation in her skillful work with her students and clients, customized to meet their unique needs.

Tania has a unique mind-body approach integrating the science of psychology and the ancient practices of yoga and meditation in creative therapeutic modalities she applied and implemented in stress and anger management programs on the Gulf Coast since 2006. She is fascinated by the healing power of yoga – on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. Tania is a member of the American Counseling Association, Mississippi Counseling Association, and International Association for Yoga Therapists. She provides individual counseling, couples, marriage and family therapy, group therapy, and teaches yoga classes and workshops.

MICHAEL BAYNE, J.D., Co-Owner


    Michael Bayne is co-owner and Chief Financial Officer of Shanti Yoga & Counseling.  He has two bachelors, masters, and Judicial doctor law degrees from Pepperdine University and the University of Southern California.  Michael worked for over 30 years in the California court system both in Los Angeles and Riverside Counties where he retired as the Executive Officer.    In 2000 after retirement, he became an International Judicial Consultant venturing into Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro.  It was in 2000 that he met Tania Bayne and the journey began and they married in 2001, and moved to the United States in 2002.  In 2010, Michael started his practice of yoga and meditation.  He loves being active in sports and in the 1990s he finished thirty marathons.  Currently, Michael is playing league tennis and practicing yoga daily.

CHARLA WILSON, M.S.

Clinical Mental Health Counselor 


    Charla graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and she received her Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society for students, professional counselors, and counselor educators. Charla is also a member of The American Counseling Association as well as the Mississippi Counseling Association. She has had a life long desire to help others live happy, healthy lives and she is happy to put this desire and passion to work at Shanti Yoga and Counseling. She uses integrative mindfulness-based therapeutic modalities in her counseling practice providing services for adults and adolescents, individual, group therapy, couples therapy, and marriage and family therapy. In her work with clients, she also focuses on self-care, stress management, and healthy joyful living. She works with couples, adults, families, children, and adolescents.


 

 

HELEN MORRIS, M.S.

Clinical Mental Health Counselor

    Helen is retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service.  Since her retirement from the military, she has obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Behavioral Health from the New York School of Technology and Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. She has provided therapy for addiction, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, depression and life transitions.  She also is a certified Life Coach with an emphasis on wellness from the Spencer Institute. Helen spent nine years working at the Veterans Healthcare System in Biloxi, Mississippi providing individual, group therapy, and work-therapy programs.  She was nominated by the veterans she served as Gulf Coast’s Caring Woman in 2013. Her approach to therapy is holistic with an emphasis on total wellness, and a focus on creating a passionate life full of meaning and purpose. With working over 20 years in the mental health field, Helen’s underlying principle to therapy is that everyone is more than capable of creating a life of happiness and meaning no matter what a person has experienced in their life — and when the optimal strategy is used, a person will transcend their suffering and will experience true joy in their life. Some of the therapies employed include cognitive-behavioral, prolonged exposure, reality, mindfulness and meditation, emotional freedom technique, and biofeedback.

AMY GANDY, RYT-200

Certified Yoga Teacher


    Amy has been a yoga practitioner for over 15 years. She began practicing yoga in northern California, before moving to Indiana in 2007. She became a certified yoga teacher at the 200 hour level at Cityoga in Indianapolis, IN. She has studied extensively in the Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga traditions, and has taken workshops with noted yoga teachers, like Rolf Gates and Seane Corn. Amy credits her practice and study of yoga with enriching her life in immeasurable ways namely through becoming more self-accepting and aware.

Amy sees the way she approaches her yoga mat each day as analogous of her willingness to be open to the process of self-discovery and acceptance. She also believes that the goal of life is be happy and one important way to attain this is to keep the journey in mind rather than the destination. Yoga facilitates this by helping one stay focused in the present moment.
Amy has a driving passion to share the benefits of yoga practice with others.

 LIZ KELLY 

Reception and Office Manager

Liz Kelly is a Southern California native that relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her husband, who is active duty military.  While living on the Gulf Coast, she has worked in customer service management positions, making Shanti Yoga and Counseling a perfect fit for her. She enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, playing volleyball and softball. Liz wants to enrich her community and is passionate about helping people in positive and encouraging ways.

 


TASHA BROKSIECK, CYT-200

Certified Yoga Teacher

    Tasha Broksieck received her RYT-200 hour level certification through Pure Hot Yoga in Springfield in Missouri. During a hard time in her second year of college she knew she had to make a change. She decided to follow her intuition which lead her to yoga teacher training, there her outlook on life changed for the better. Through yoga she learned to unite her body and mind, which allowed her to listen to her own truth. Tasha wants to help others reunite their mind and body so they can find, speak, and live their own truths. She is teaching beginners’, intermediate, and gentle yoga classes.

PRESLEY MCNIEL, CYT-230

Certified Yoga Teacher

    Presley W. McNiel was certified as a 230-hour yoga instructor through the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, NC.  What began as a fun way to restore her body from an injury while playing college softball soon revealed a deeper meaning.  She is a full time middle school teacher and also serves as a youth minister in a local church. During her classes she goes out of her way to make all students feel comfortable and safe, while also offering ways to find personal edges. Presley hopes to help students find connections between their practice on the mat and their everyday lives.  She is passionate about bringing health and healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. She & her husband, Josh, have been practicing at Shanti Yoga and Counseling since they moved back to the coast in 2013.
